Harley Bunyan “Josh” Chaffin

 

Harley Bunyan “Josh” Chaffin, 76, of Fred Lanier Road, husband of Brenda Lanier Chaffin, died on Monday, February 13, 2012, at Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home. Born in Davie County on May 6, 1935; son of the late John B. Chaffin and Hazel Blackwelder Chaffin. He was a member of Ijames Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include his wife; Brenda Lanier Chaffin of the home, a son, Tim D. Chaffin (Tammi) of Troutman, daughter; Kathy G. (Dale) Herrin of Albemarle, brother, Joe Tommy Chaffin (Judy Collette), two sisters; Helen (A.C.) Ratledge and Ruth (S.T.) Snow all of Mocksville, five grandchildren; Krystle (Jed) Herrin, Brieanna, Dustin, Rebecca, Payton Porter, two great grandchildren; Hadley and Taylen Herrin and a step-grandson, Zachary Herrin

 

A graveside service was held on Friday, February 17, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ijames Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Greg McEwen officiating. The family  received friends on Thursday, February 16, from 6:30 until 8:30 pm at Davie Funeral Service.

Wilma Jean Snider Smith

 

 

Wilma Jean Snider Smith, 70, of Fork Bixby Road, died on Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center with her family around her.  Born in Davidson County on July 14, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Lawrence Snider and Pearl Marie Keaton Snider.  She was the original owner and operator of the former County Line 64 Texaco and attended Fork Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dallas Smith; a daughter and son-in-law, Renee S. and Mark Howell;a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Wayne and Cathy Foster Smith a sister, Geraldyne Snider (Albert) Gosnell of Houston, Texas; a brother, Jerry Raymond (Marie) Snider of Raleigh, NC and 2 grandchildren, Stephanie Renee Howell and Trevor Wesley Smith.

 

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 2:00 pm from Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Rev.Darren Crotts officicating. Burial was in the Episcopal Church Cemetery. The family  recieved friends on Wednesday, February 15, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service.

Paul Anderson "Peewee" Foster

 

 

Paul Anderson “Peewee” Foster, 83, of Ken Dwiggins Drive, died on Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.  Born in Davie County on March 7, 1928, he was the son of the late William A. Foster and Lillie K. McCulough Foster.  He was retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Company and was of the Baptist faith.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Ruth Harkey Foster and 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by a stepson, Norman (Audrey) Eldreth of Kannapolis; and a stepdaughter, Donna M. (Tim) Allen of Mocksville, and a step granddaughter, Lillie Jane Allen.

 

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Tuesday, February 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Darrell Cox officiating.  Burial will be private at a later date.  The family  received friends on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Reba “Pauline” Capel

 

Reba “Pauline” Capel, 84 of Cooleemee, died on Friday, February 3, 2012, at Autumn Care of Mocksville. Born in Davie County on November 13, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Ernest S. Capel and Mary Alta Cheek Capel. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cooleemee.

 

In addition to both parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ina Capel Ward and Elsie Capel Strain.  She is survived by niece, Freida Ward Jordan, of Mocksville.

 

A Graveside Service was conducted on Sunday, February 5, at 3:00 pm at Legion Memorial Park with Rev. Greg McEwen officiating.  The family  visited with friends following the service.

 Caroline Joan Barot Restivo

 

 

Caroline Joan Barot Restivo, 56, of North Hazelwood Drive, Mocksville, died on Thursday, February 2, 2012, at her home.  Born in Warren County, New York on July 8, 1955, she was the daughter of the late James E. Barot and Gladys Annetta Bragg Barot.  She was a home maker and attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Mocksville NC.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, fashions, home decorating, and puzzles. 

 

She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Royce Steven “Russ” Restivo; 2 step-sons, Michael (Tina) Restivo of Mocksville and Samual Restivo of Jacksonville, Florida; a daughter, Tina Marie (Kathy) Donbeck of Alexandria, VA; 2 brothers, James E. (Nancy) Barot of Glens Falls, NY and Charles Barot of Hudson Falls, NY; 4 sisters, Linda (Robert) Stevens, Charlene “Bunny” (Edwin) Pugliese, all of Glens Falls, NY, Cindy Barot of Hudson Falls, NY and Ruth (William) Keller of Athol, NY; 2 grandchildren, Aidan and Brady Donbeck, and a special friend and long time companion Sir Gizmo her beloved pet.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at the Carleton Funeral Home in Hudson Falls, NY with burial in the St. Mary Cemetery in Fort Edward, NY.

 

The family requests that memorials be considered for Davie County Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 377 Hospital Street, Mocksville, NC 27028.

Danny Paul Methot

 

Danny Paul Methot, 56, of Mocksville died January 22, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center.

 

Born in Shiawassee Michigan on January 4, 1956; son to the late Russell Methot and Edith Gray Methot.  He was a member of West Yadkin Assembly of God in Hamptonville, NC.

 

Survivors include his wife Consuelo “Chelly” Varel Methot of 9 years; one daughter Kelsey Rose Leonard Methot of Florida, and two step sons Stephen P. Shea II of Winston Salem, Daniel John Shea of Miami Beach FL,

 

A celebration of life service was held on Saturday January 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at West Yadkin Assembly of God in Hamptonville, NC with Pastor John Byerly officiating. Burial  followed in the church cemetery.  The family  received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

 

He was preceded in death by his father.

Douglas McArthur Stanley  

 

Douglas McArthur Stanley, 66, of Mocksville died January 25, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center.

 

Born in Davie County on March 5, 1945; son to the late Thomas L. Stanley and Jessie Lee Cooley Stanley. 

 

He is survived by Paulette Loftin the mother of his children; two sons, Robert D. Stanley (Summer) of Waynesburg OH, Luther A. Stanley (Rebecca) of Cooleemee, one daughter Melinda S. Aquino (Thomas) of Canton OH.  One brother, David Stanley of Woodleaf; six sisters Mary Lynn Motsinger of Winston-Salem, Dora Corbett of Rockwell, Zelma McLeland of Advance, Barbara Holmes of Newport News, Dolly Brown of Winston-Salem, Linda Shores of Woodleaf.  Seven Grandchildren; Anthony and his wife Riley, Lauren, and Dominick Aquino all of Ohio, Misty Stewart (Jeffery) of Salisbury, Logan, Trevor, and Cheston Stanley of Waynesburg Ohio, one great grandchild Ashlyn Smith of Salisbury.

 

He was preceded in death by both parents, three brothers Joe, Fred, and Tom Stanley, and four sisters, Dean, Nora, Martha, Alamae, and Ollie.

 

A Celebration of life service was held Sunday January 29, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at South River Church of Christ with Brother Tommy Graham, and Brother Jimmy Stone officiating. He  lay in state one hour prior to the service. Burial  followed in the church cemetery.  The Family received friends on Saturday January 28, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service, 416 Valley Road Mocksville, NC 27028.

Conner Adam Lewis 
 

 

Conner Adam Lewis, 1, of Mocksville, passed away January 23, 2012 at his home. He was born January 23, 2011 to Mark Anthony Lewis and Christy Michelle Howard.

  

Survivors include other than his parents, three brothers Damian Lewis, Devon Lewis, and Dacoda Lewis of the home; great grandmother Mary Hazelwood Morris, of Rockingham, NC, grandparents Robin Manning, Keith Howard of Tarboro, Barbara Hudson & Johnnie Hudson of Mocksville, and James Lewis of Bethel, NC.

 

A Graveside service was conducted on Friday January 27, 2012 at 1:00 pm from Edgecombe Memorial Park in Tarboro, NC.  The family received family and friends on Wednesday January 25, 2012 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service.

Johnny M. Whitt

 

 

Johnny M. Whitt, 67, of S. M. Whitt Drive, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at his home.  Born in Forsyth County on May 19, 1944, he was the son of Nellie Hepler Whitt and the late Sidney Monroe Whitt.  He retired as a SFC in the U.S. Army with over 20 years service.  He was a Vietnam veteran and was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.  He was highly decorated with numerous citations for honorable service to a country he loved.  He was a lifetime member of NCOA and the DAV.  He also drove for 20 years for Cox Motor Express.  He was a member of the Mocksville Church of God.  Johnny served God, family, and his country honorably and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 32 years, Deborah Simpson Whitt, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny Monroe “Jay”, Jr. and Larissa Whitt of Thomasville; 2 daughters, Lori Whitt of Columbus, NC and Pamela M. (Charlie) Keen of Mocksville; a brother, Richard (Genna) Whitt of Mocksville; 5 grandchildren, Dustin C. McCullough, Drake Garrett, Dalton Whitt, Bethany Painter and Sarah Painter; a special niece, Shelia Weathers; special aunts, Alma Needham and Louise Hepler and several nephews, nieces, and brothers and sisters-in law.

 

 A Celebration of Life Service was held on Friday, January 20, at 11:00 a.m., in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Larry Hollifield and Rev. Daniel Gamble officiating. Burial was at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the Salisbury National Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Army Funeral Support Detail from Ft. Bragg.

Fletcher M. Queen, Jr.

 

 

Fletcher M. Queen, Jr. 76, of Pine Ridge Road, died on Friday, January 13, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center.   Born in Oconee, South Carolina, on January 28, 1935, he was the son of the late Fletcher M. Queen, Sr. and Maggie Hamby Queen. He was a member of First Baptist Church Cooleemee, choir director and deacon, Cooleemee Men’s Civitan; Army National Guard Reserves, and was retired from National Starch Chemical Company in Salisbury.   

 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Quarles Queen, daughter, Angela Queen (Dan) Price of Mocksville, 4 grandchildren, Jonathan, Noah, and Nathan West, and Harley Price.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Queen and grandson, Dustin West.  

 

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Monday, January 16, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Cooleemee, with Rev. Allen Mullins, Pastor Shelby Harbour, and Pastor John Groff officiating. The family  received friends from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. Monday, at the church prior to the service.  Burial followed in the Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jacob William Waldrop       

 

 

Jacob William Waldrop, 87, of Singleton Road, Mocksville, died on Friday, January 6, 2012, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.  Born in Bessemer, Alabama on November 25, 1924, he was the son of the late Grady Roland Waldrop and Pearl Mae Skelton Waldrop.  He served in the Army during World War II, retired from Stockhausen in Greensboro, was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, was also a Boy Scout and a member of the Civitan Club. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna Jean Wilkes Waldrop.

 

Mr. Waldrop is survived by three daughters, Susan W. (Ronnie) Riddle of Mocksville, Donna W. (Mark) Bird of Big Spring, TX, Ginger W. (Bill) Taylor of Garland, TX, brother-in-law, Lellwyn Lackey of Clanton, AL, 8 grandchildren, Sally R. (Jason) DesNoyers, Betsy R. (Paul) Drye, Alethea and Rebecca Riddle, Melinda and Jacob Bird, Christian and Courtney Taylor; and great-grandchild, Dashel DesNoyers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Clifford Waldrop, sisters, Lillie Mae Stanley and Evelyn Lackey.

 

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Monday, January 9, at 3:00 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Chapman and Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. He  lay in state 30 minutes prior to the service.  Burial  followed in the church cemetery. The family  received friends on Sunday, January 8, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service.

 

Memorials may be made to Jerusalem Baptist Church or Cemetery Fund, donors choice, 3203 US Hwy 601 S, Mocksville, NC  27028.

Shirley Morgan Leonard       

 

 

Shirley Morgan Leonard, 70, of Salisbury, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Magnolia Gardens in Spencer.  Born in Rowan County on December 31, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Jasper C. and Gladys Holshouser Morgan.  She was a retired seamstress and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Mocksville.

 

She is survived by 2 daughters, Laura (Rusty) Jackson of Salisbury and Patti Leonard of Gold Hill, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her companion of 20 years, William “Willie” Leonard, a sister, Ila Mae Drew, 2 half-brothers, Clifford “Bud” Brady and Harvey Brady; and her stepmother, Ophelia Morgan.

 

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, January 7, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Darrel Cox and Rex Podunavac officiating.  Burial was in Legion Memorial Park in Cooleemee.  The family  received friends on Saturday from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at the church.

Sarah Magdline Reynolds Morgan

 

 

Sarah Magdline Reynolds Morgan, 84 of Mocksville, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center. Born in Davie County on February 5, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Gladys Boger Reynolds. She was a member of Union Chapel Methodist Church and retired in 1988 from Blackwelder’s clothing factory.

 

Survivors include her 2 sons, Billy (Cathy) Stanley and Heruly Lee Stanley, of Salisbury; 2 daughters, Sarah (Wayne) Chriscoe and Colleen (Jimmy) Strain, of Mocksville; 4 sisters, Hazel Rummage, Helen Reeves, Ruth Richardson, and May Nell Canupp, of Mocksville; 3 grandchildren, Wayne Harris, Matthew Stanley, and Arron Strain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Wayne and Dennis Stanley, and granddaughter, Norma Flower.

 

A Celebration of Life Service was conducted on Friday, January 6, at 2:00 pm in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. David Gilbreath and Rev. Darrel Cox officiating. Burial  followed in the Union Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery. The family  received friends on Thursday, January 5, from 7 to 9 pm at Davie Funeral Service.

 

Memorials may be directed to Union Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery fund, 2030 US Hwy 601 N, Mocksville, NC  27028.
